James McPike was joined with Wolves U17 captain Hayden Carson following their 3-1 defeat in the Premier League Cup final at the Molineux Stadium against Chelsea.
James was asked about his team’s performance despite the disappointing result. He said:
“We definitely had some good chances. We started off on the front foot and like you say, created chances. We just wasn’t able to finish them off in the important moments.
“A bit disappointing for the lads but they had a right go, it wasn’t our backs against the wall. We created a lot. I am pleased with them.”
Goal scorer Fraser Harper was substituted through injury, McPike was asked on the wellbeing of the Wolves number ten.
“The medical team will have a good look at him, he took a kick early on in the game but managed to soldier through it. They’ll have a look at him over the next couple of days and assess it from there really.”
Hayden Carson was questioned on his leadership qualities and how he will lift the group following a disappointing defeat.
He said: “Their goal before half time was sloppy to concede so some of the lads came in a bit deflated, so it’s up to me to put that to one side and motivate the players the best I can.”
“I said at half time we needed more belief and when we did win the ball back, we were more calm in keeping the ball, once we did that, we got the goal.”
Carson was also asked about the experience of playing in a Premier League stadium and how it motivates him and the team going forward.
Carson said: “it’s a massive privilege and it’s something that the boys will remember for the rest of their lives.”
“This cup run, it’s massive in all of our careers, it’s definitely something we’ll remember forever really.”
