Wolves welcomed Chelsea to the Molineux Stadium for the U17’s Premier League Cup Final clash. The first time both teams have reached the final.
The visitors opened the scoring through some individual brilliance from Rio Nghumoha, however just after the break Wolves equalised from Fraser Harper’s deflected effort. Frankie Runham stole the show with his two well-deserved goals.
Chelsea started the game with long spells of possession, but that suited Wolves as they created chances on the counter-attack through Dani Angel in the opening 20 minutes.
Chelsea had a chance of their own in Frankie Runham, but a vital block from Caden Voice denied him just a few yards away from goal.
Genesis Antwi created a chance for himself with some brilliant individual play, beating four players and glancing through the Wolves midfield, but the midfielder could not keep his shot down.
The visitors opened the scoring just before half-time through Rio Ngumoha.
The number 11 picked up the ball on the half turn and drove at the Wolves defence, his long-range effort found the bottom corner of the net.
After the break, Wolves started perfectly and got their equalizer through Fraser Harper.
However, this was short lived as Chelsea were resilient and re-gained the lead in the 52nd minute through Frankie Runham.
Chelsea’s high press was successful, they won the ball on the edge of the Wolves box, Runham set himself up perfectly with his first-touch and slotted the ball into the bottom corner.
Wolves’ Dani Angel continued to develop into the game and create some huge chances for himself, but his efforts did not worry Kai Crampton.
Runham got his second of the night in the 87th minute, a corner which was defended by Wolves fell onto the foot of the number seven who doubled the Blues lead.
Chelsea controlled the tempo of the game in the last few minutes, and the referee put the whistle to his lips to crown Chelsea U17’s the Premier League Cup Winners of the 2023/2024 season.
