Robins’ team took the lead in the second half, Wolves fought back and turned the game around to lead 2-1 due to Ait-Nouri scoring and assisting for the home side. Coventry fought back through Ellis Simms getting his second of the afternoon and Haji Wright’s winner booked the Sky Blues a place in the FA Cup semi-finals.
Wolves dominated the ball in the first half, but it was Coventry who created the key chances. Ellis Simms struck from close-range which, somehow, Jose Sa saved.
Coventry continued their threat on the counter-attack, but Jose Sa kept Wolves in the game again.
Wolves had chances of their own, Nelson Semedo struck the ball from close-range but Collins caught his attempt comfortably.
Both teams went into the break with the score still 0-0.
Just eight minutes after the restart, Coventry took the lead through Simms.
A set-piece was floated into the danger area and Wolves struggled to clear their lines, the 23-year-old was there to bundle the ball home.
After a lengthy VAR check, the goal was given.
Wolves grew into the game, Joao Gomes’ strike was saved onto the post but O’Neil’s side couldn’t find the equaliser.
Until Rayan Ait-Nouri levelled the scores again in the 83rd minute, with two goals from his last two games.
Joao Gomes’ cross was not cleared by Coventry and fell into the path of Ait-Nouri who struck the ball on the volley and Wolves had hope.
Five minutes later, O’Neil’s team took the lead.
Ait-Nouri played the ball through into substitute Hugo Bueno, who scored his first Wolves goal of his career, the Molineux Stadium erupted from what looked to have been the winner.
With nine minutes added on, Coventry didn’t lose belief and equalised through Simms with just two minutes left to play.
The fans and managers were preparing for extra-time, but Haji Wright had ideas of his own.
Simms was once again in the action, and set Wright on the edge of the box. Jose Sa had no chance and the Sky Blues booked their tickets to the capital.
This is the second time Coventry City have reached the FA Cup semi-finals in the clubs history.
After the international break on March 30, Wolves will travel to Villa Park for a local derby clash in the Premier League.
Coventry will visit Huddersfield in the Championship on Friday March 29.
