Raul Jimenez for the Wolves Fancast POTS Award 2019/20

    Raul Jimenez.

    The Mexican sensation.

    He’s friends with a wrestler.

He’s got more followers on Twitter than most elite Premier League footballers.

He loves to visit Stonehenge and pick up a some grub at Village Coffee in Codsall (It’s called ‘Medicine’ now but Codsall people, do people really call it that still?)

From a Wolves Fancast point of view, the case is closed.

    Raul Jimenez is the winner.

However, for the purposes of this piece I need to elaborate about why Raul Jimenez is worthy of our *prestigious award (I say prestigious, it’s just a novelty t-shirt which is probably either chucked out or used to wear when you paint the fence).

    Superstar in the making

Where as Joao Moutinho arrived at Molineux as a bonafide star, we have been lucky enough to see the transition of someone becoming a star in Raul Jimenez.

At the time of writing, Raul Jimenez is on the verge of becoming a Molineux legend in the record books. With 27 goals in all competitions so far this season, he just needs to score one more goal to eclipse the great John Richards.

Breaking this record, even surpassing his own Premier League record of last season, shows you how important he has been this season.

Talking of goals, those have been mightily impressive this season.

The sweep back and curler to win against Spurs in February. Rotating his head like an owl and slotting away against Liverpool in January.

Sweeping into the bottom corner to win against Southampton and a thronker of a volley against Burnley (the less about how that game ended the better), Raul Jimenez doesn’t just score goals, he scores goals with the artistric majestry of a Turner winning prize painting.

And let’s not forget his penalties.

Raul Jimenez has a 100% record on the spot this season so far, converting all 6 he has taken in the Premier League.

His pin point selection of where the ball goes into the net is mesmerising to watch. Dangling his right leg in the air, almost in slow motion, before he places the shot, overtly teasing the goalkeeper about which way he is about to go.

The goals go in, and you pop more than when Edge returned at this years Royal Rumble.

‘SACAPUNTAS’ is probably what you’re screaming as Jimenez puts the circular object into the net with either his foot or beautiful forehead.

Oh gosh I’m gushing already re-watching those highlight reels as I type.

    No ‘I’ in team

What makes Raul Jimenez so valuable as a striker is his ability to be the ultimate team player.

His runs down the flank and in between play helps to connect Wolves’ focal attack.

He helps to bring others in play and provide Wolves with more options going forward, and confuse defenses for who is going to strike first.

Raul Jimenez is not a selfish player. He looks to bring others into the attack for the better of the side.

Factor this in with his blossoming partnership with Sonic the Hedgehog FC, Adama Traore, this season. Where they have combined for 10 goals so far, the most of any duo, and you can see why his all round game is up there in the Premier League.

There is no better example of this than both of Adama Traore’s goals against Manchester City in October.

Both times Raul Jimenez is the focus of the breakaway.

He could take it alone and go for glory. For each goal he holds onto the ball to distract the defence, whilst Traore bursts down the right, in space, and glides the ball to him so Adama can slot past Ederson and leave the away end in jubilation.

He’s such as rare asset in today’s marketplace.

No wonder the likes of Manchester United and Juventus are constantly linked in the papers to tempt him into their world.

His xG is also 16.56 (I hate xG, but people love it so I’ll put it in), and he is guaranteed to get you and your teammates goals.

Cast your vote for Raul Jimenez

You will see the case for other nominees. Why they should win due to either their sheer improvement and impact, consistency or ability to change a game.

Raul Jimenez is the one that delivers the goods. He is the one who makes you smile post game. He is the one who makes you over hyped on Twitter.

Raul Jimenez. He is your Wolves Fancast Player of the Season 2019/20.
