Brighton started the game with intent and their best chance came to Buonanotte in the 11th minute, who had Jose Sa beaten, but Tommy Doyle cleared the effort on the line.
Wolves were a threat on the counter attack, and came close when Pedro Neto’s shot went wide, Pablo Sarabia also had a chance however his shot was placed wide in the first half.
The first half ended in an interesting manner, Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi confronted the Wolves bench after a challenge between Billy Gilmour and Craig Dawson.
It wasn’t just De Zerbi who was left furious, Matheus Cunha was booked at the end of the first half following a soft challenge on Gilmour. The Brazilian tried to declare his innocence to the Referee as the sides headed back to the tunnel.
It was Cunha who nearly opened the scoring for Wolves within the first seconds within the second half, who was denied by Jason Steele and the rebound was shot over the bar.
Joao Pedro looked to be through on goal, until Nelson Semedo denied the Brazilian with a wonderful recovering slide tackle to block the shot.
Just a couple minutes later, Max Kilman hit Jose Sa’s post after an attempt to block Jack Hinshelwood’s cross.
Wolves continued to threaten the Brighton defence in the second half, Steele done well to deny Pedro Neto’s close range shot.
Wolves came close again through Neto, who flashed a ball across the six yard box begging for someone to tap it home, however Cunha did not anticipate the 23-year-olds pass.
Cunha’s night continued on a bad run as he was played through by Neto. Jason Steele came rushing out to deny Cunha, the Brazilian’s touch took him a touch too far wide and misplaced his shot out of play.
Mario Lemina forced Steele’s final save of the night, pushing his way effort successfully.
Brighton pressured Wolves in the last ten minutes with high amounts of possession, however had nothing to show for it.
The Seagulls will travel to Bramall Lane on January 27, for an FA Cup Fourth Round game.
