Wolves were defeated at Molineux for the first time since September.
Kobbie Mainoo scored his first Premier League goal.
Marcus Rahford returned to the squad following his incident in Belfast.
Under the lights at Molineux, the game started at an intense pace when Casemiro received a yellow card in the second minute.
Just three minutes later Wolves were behind, Hoijund laid the ball off to Rashford on the edge of the box who placed his shot to perfection beyond Jose Sa into the top corner.
The goal gave the red devils momentum, this was proved on the 22nd minute. A ball across the box from Luke Shaw found Hoijund who found the back of the net from close range.
The Denmark forward had the ball in the net for the second time towards the end of the first half, however the flag was raised for offside.
Casemiro also found the net minutes later, but again the flag was raised.
Manchester United went into the break with a well deserved 2-0 lead.
Wolves came into the second half with purpose, Max Kilman’s header was denied off the line by Lisandro Martinez.
The Old Gold looked dangerous on the break, Pedro Neto cut inside but Casemiro stopped the 23-year-old from advancing.
The hosts were provided an opportunity back in the game from 12 yards, which substitute Pablo Sarabia dispatched in the 71st minute.
However United struck back. Substitute Scott McTominay had a free header which he nodded home to restore United’s two goal lead with just 15 minutes to play.
Wolves didn’t give up, exactly ten minutes later Max Kilman found the back of the net from close range after a bundle in the box.
Ten minutes further deep into added time, Pedro Neto found the net and Wolves had looked to done enough to retain their unbeaten run.
Tensions were at an all time high but it was Kobbie Mainoo who provided an ice cold finish in the 97th minute, the academy graduate secured all three points at the death for the red devils.
Next up for the hosts, Gary O’Neil’s side will travel to Stamford Bridge for a 14:00 kick off against Chelsea.
Manchester United will host West Ham United at Old Trafford also for a 14:00 o’clock kick off on February 4.
