Jonny Otto has struggled in recent years, from joining the club in July 2018 on loan from Atletico Madrid the Spaniard hit the ground running at Molineux who went down as an “unsung hero” some might say.
The downfall started in August 2020 as Wolves played Olympiakos in the Europa League, Jonny damaged his ACL.
After recovering from this injury, Otto then faced the same problem in training as Wolves prepared to take on West Ham United. This was on the same knee, and the exact same injury. Jonny received surgery after his second ACL injury in eight months.
Jonny made his return to the first team in Febuary 2021, a major moment for him followed just a month later when he scored a crisp half-volley to open the scoring against local rivals Aston Villa.
Since coming back from injury Jonny Otto hasn’t seen many minutes in a Wolves shirt, under various managers.
With the club having Financial Fairplay issues last summer, Jonny was placed on the transfer list in hope his sale would help the club’s position. However the wingback had other ideas as it was reported he wanted to stay and fight for his place in the team.
It seems although this has backfired, as in recent days Gary O’Neil confirmed in his post match press conference after the Arsenal game that Jonny was not injured when he was asked why he was not in the squad. It has now been published that Otto has not been in the squad due to a “training incident” which the club are dealing with internally.
January is soon arriving and the transfer window will be open once again, could this be time for Jonny Otto to move on from Wolverhampton Wanderers?
